Here are just a few of the most common foot ailments treated by L&S Podiatry, P.C.:
- Neuromas: Thickening of nerves in the foot leading to burning, tingling, cramping or
numbness. This is caused by irritation that results when two bones repeatedly rub together.
- Flat feet: Loss of foot arch support causing pain and may lead to other foot problems.
One may be born with flat feet or may acquire flat feet as a result of arthritis, trauma
or other musculo-skeletal disorders.
- Ankle sprains: Overstretch or tear of the ligaments connecting the food and anklebones.
- Plantar Fasciitis: Strain of the ligament-like band running from your heel to the ball
of your foot often causing heel pain.
- Ingrown Nails: Nail that grows into the skin around it. Symptoms include toe pain.
Untreated, ingrown nails may lead to inflammation or more serious infections.
- Bunions: Pain and swelling around the joint at the base of the big toe most often caused
by ill-fitting shoes.
- Warts: A viral infection causing a hard, rough growth on the surface of the skin.
- Hammer Toes: Curling of toe joints due to muscle imbalance or tight tendons. May
restrict movement and cause pain.
- Corns and Calluses: In response to foot pressure or friction, the outer layer of the
skin thickens leading to pain or pinching. Corns usually grow on top of the foot,
while calluses spread on the bottom of the foot or the outer edge of a toe or heel.
- Athlete's Foot: A chronic infection caused by various types of fungus. Symptoms range
from mild scaling and itching to painful inflammation and blisters.
- Fungal Nails: A fungal infection that has progressed to the nail causing discoloration,
nail thickening, inflammation, or sensitivity.
- Thickened Nails: An abnormally thick, ridged, brittle or yellowish nail. May be caused
by injuries, pressure, infection or more serious conditions such as diabetes, psoriasis
or vascular disease. Left untreated thickened nails may lead to the loss of the nail.
- Black-And-Blue Nails: Bruised, broken blood vessels causing black-and-blue colors under
the nail. Most often affects the big toe and is usually caused by sudden or repetitive
injury.
Most major medical, PPOs, medicare, and commercial insurance accepted as full or
